This one-of-a-kind 1976 Airstream Argosy 28T Bicentennial Edition is a professionally reimagined tandem-axle travel trailer that blends vintage character with modern luxury. it underwent an extensive yacht-inspired resto-mod, most notably featuring a custom aft deck with a retractable bimini top that creates an open-air lounge.

The renovation included a full overhaul of plumbing, electrical, propane, and HVAC systems, plus new waterproof bamboo flooring, cabinetry, appliances, and furnishings. The exterior was refinished in automotive-grade turquoise blue and black basecoat-clearcoat paint. Inside, the layout includes a front lounge with a convertible sofa bed, center galley, bathroom, and spacious rear berth with a long twin bed. Amenities include a rear deck, propane grill, outdoor shower, with a curtain that clips into the bimini top hardware to create a shower enclosure, Armstrong A/C, Olympic catalytic heater, flat-screen TV, bluetooth marine stereo, microwave, and on-demand water heater. Offered with build documentation, component manuals, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.

I’ve restored vintage travel trailers for over a decade—specializing in Airstream, Spartan, and Vagabond models—with more than 50 trailers rescued. We’re a small team of skilled craftsmen, and our 120V systems are designed and installed by a trusted commercial/residential electrician. This trailer was a 3-year labor of love between other projects, and I’m thrilled to offer it for sale.

The aluminum exterior was prepped and painted with basecoat-clearcoat, then polished and protected. Features include chrome trim, retractable boarding step, combo screen/entry door, dimmable LED lighting, and an extended rear bumper with built-in storage.

The yacht-inspired aft deck features a retractable bimini top, outdoor shower sprayer that can be used on deck or in the provided shower tent. A custom aluminum door leads to the deck, outfitted with diamond-plate flooring, two porthole windows, folding director’s chairs, marine speakers, floor drains, removable propane grill and table, and a hand-finished African Sapele railing with integrated dimmable LED lighting.

Significant engineering went into the reconfigured stern. Weight removed was closely offset by heavy-gauge diamond plate, structural aluminum framing, and the Sapele end cap. All Dragonfly Camper builds undergo rigorous testing, including highway towing (up to 85 mph), water and propane pressure tests, and leak inspection in heavy rain. This Argosy passed all system tests.

It rides on six-spoke aluminum alloy wheels with new 225/75 Contender trailer tires. Rebuilt electric drum brakes, new dual propane tanks, and all utility connections—water, 30-amp electric, and waste. Hubs were serviced and bearings repacked under current ownership.

The interior features Lifeproof bamboo flooring, curtains, roll-up shades, working ceiling vents, and the classic Argosy wraparound windows. The forward lounge includes a folding, restored original side table and overhead storage. The custom memory foam sofa bed converts into a near-queen size bed. A 24″ flat-screen TV is mounted on an adjustable arm with a removable laptop shelf. Bluetooth marine speakers are installed throughout. Restored Argosy emblems were inlaid with resin and hand-tinted with mica powder to create a unique visual depth.

Next to the entry is an uncirculated 1776–1976 silver dollar, added as a tribute to the trailer’s original bicentennial year build.

The galley features a quartz countertop and backsplash, deep basin sink, turquoise-finished soft-close drawer hardware, two-burner propane cooktop, microwave, exhaust hood, under-sink filter, fridge/freezer, and color-matched coffee maker, griddle, and toaster oven. The gray water tank and A/C were refurbished; other new equipment includes freshwater and black tanks, Olympic heater, Bosch on-demand water heater, and a system monitor.

The central berth features an extra-long twin bed with privacy curtain, large under-bed drawers, reading lights, and a hinged window. The adjacent bathroom includes a vanity, sink, and porcelain toilet.

The frame was repainted during the build, and the underside is enclosed with aluminum belly pans. Stabilizer jacks are mounted front and rear, and full underglow lighting and dual deep-cycle batteries.

We chose not to include an interior shower to preserve a spacious interior and focus on the aft deck concept. The outdoor setup allows for open-air experiences—ideal for coastal or lakeside camping. The deck can easily double as a bar or entertaining space. This Argosy is built to inspire adventure and offer a unique camper experience.

I often picture it backed up to an epic view, the deck extended with a cedar sauna beside it.
