Description:

Aristocrat Lo-Liner – 1967 – 18 foot – With New Appliances, AC, Shower and Toilet - "Hazel Mae"

Purchased in Texas panhandle in early 2022, this trailer was pretty rough. Lots of leaks, some rot, lighting was a disaster. We put $11,000 and 1000 hours into refurbishing and updating it, and it’s now quite beautiful. Here’s what we did:

The original paneling was largely not salvageable. There was quite a bit of water damage and some rot. In many places the layers were separating like pages in a book. In other places we pulled the paneling to access concealed leaks. Wherever we pulled paneling we sealed everything, fixed water ingress points with new wood, fiberglass, foam and caulk as needed and replaced all the old funky insulation with new foil-backed Styrofoam insulation. That paneling was replaced with new custom maple plywood panels in the dining area, bathroom, and chest area in the back creating a beautiful retro look. We fabricated new end panels from maple for the table benches and upper cabinet ends.

The upper bunk was completely removed to enhance a feeling of roominess. It wasn’t needed as it still sleeps four and no one would want to be in this trailer with six people. We still have the bunk and mattress if you want those. The closet needed significant repairs to exterior walls and floor and was completely refinished. All cabinet and door hardware was replaced. All remaining paneling in good condition was painted white with oil-based paint. An unused space above the refrigerator was converted to a lighted 4-bottle ‘wine attic’ as we call it!

The incoming electrical service was all replaced with 10ga as the original was in poor condition and not adequate to handle AC. Added new electrical input port, 4 pin with twist lok. Most interior wiring was replaced and we added a double GFI at the sink and two more double 110v outlets elsewhere, as well as a double outlet in the electrical/battery bay to accommodate charging without extension cord. All lighting was replaced, both inside and out, with LED fixtures, 110v and 12v, including all running lights, brakes, turn signals – now very bright. Added a porch light, which it did not have. Added digital 12 volt battery gage.

All water fixtures were replaced. Replaced all plumbing except the gray water drain which was fine. All gas lines were also replaced to ensure safety. The plumbing and gas were done by a licensed professional plumber. The kitchen countertop was replaced, as was the tabletop. Backsplash was redone in ceramic tile at the bottom and aluminum tiles above.

Windows are jalousie style. All were tuned up, lubed, cranks replaced as needed and new seals outside. These have been thru a lot of heavy rain and never let water in. Some windows got new wider metal drip guards outside, all were removed for new butyl rubber sealing tape underneath. .

Most all appliances were replaced:

New Range – stainless 3-burner stove with oven, lighted controls and matching stainless range hood, vented with fan.

New Water heater replaced 2024, heats quickly, works great.

New Refrigerator/freezer - Norcold, 3 cubic foot, AC or gas and can operate on 12 v when pulling. Freezer works great.

New Ceramic toilet, new shower head, hose and valves

Water pump – 12v, not new but recent. It’s a demand pump – when wall switch is on it idles until a water valve is opened.

Air conditioner – 4 yrs old, works great on 30 amp supply

Other improvements

C02 monitor, smoke alarm

All new upholstery

All new curtains

All new woodgrain vinyl plank flooring

Window screens have new fabric

Custom fabricated front awning/stone shield with gas struts

Brand new tires as of 9/20/25. Spare tire appears to have never been on the road.

New tongue jack

New gas bottles

Two locking latches on front door and a peep hole

Trailer has a gas furnace. It’s not new, but works great – maybe TOO great. It’s a small space and we usually use a tiny electric space heater if we need one.

Outside Repairs:

All vents, aluminum extrusion edging and window rain drip guards removed and re-installed with new butyl rubber beneath. Caulked the heck out of everything. It does not leak, anywhere. A freak storm dumped 9” of rain in one day and there was no sign of water inside.

Reworked the refrigerator gas venting system and new outside vent grill for the fridge compartment.

Underneath – cleaned, tightened, filled perimeter gaps between frame and floor, filled extraneous holes, made new cover for the toilet subfloor access. Sealed around the sewer down pipe.

Note – this trailer does not have an on-board blackwater tank. Typically, we book sites with sewer service and everything goes straight into the campground sewer system. When we have no sewer system available there is a portable tank which can be dumped at any cleanout station and mounts on the back of the trailer after emptying for transport. Trailer was painted just before we bought it; every year I do touchup and repaint as needed.

The port side has quite a bit of very light hail damage. Not very noticeable most of the time; depends on sun angle. It was not economically feasible to replace hail damaged panels. The front stone shield is a little bent at the bottom from a very low speed backing jackknife.
