2006 Ford F-450 SUPER DUTY
This is a factory 4x4 Type 1 ambulance Expedition Camper conversion. I’ve owned and driven it since 2018. Ford F-450 chassis, stock 6.0L Superduty. It’s registered, inspected, insured, and driving.
Vehicle Details
2006 F-450 4x4 Type 1 Ambulance Expedition Camper. Approximately 220,350 miles on chassis, and 76,350 miles on new Ford dealership installed engine in 2012. Truck has always been dealership maintained until recently when I found a local Superduty specialist. I bought this truck in 2018 and have worked on it since but sadly it’s fallen way down on the list of life priorities. Good running 6.0L diesel. Engine is a factory replacement in 2012. Bolt not studs. I’ve never had a problem with the engine. Replaced starter, water pump, turbo inlet hose, radiator, and a bunch more under the hood.
My philosophy in the back of the truck from the start was to maximize floor space. To that end I removed some of the side storage compartments to open up the interior and create more room.
I Installed a brand new seat from a Chevy Tahoe that folds forward, mounted on a heavy custom welded frame which is heavily bolted to the truck. The back seat setup can be easily removed if desired. DOT approved seat belts. Truck seats 5, all with belts. New cedar ceiling with 12 volt recessed lights and 12v led perimeter lights. All 12v power from a Milwaukee tool battery through a special transformer. I’ll let the Milwaukee battery adapter go with the truck if you plan on using it but no lithium battery included. I had 12v from the truck batteries at one point so that’s an option, or install your own solar. Wired with 120v outlets which uperate through shore power or inverter. No inverter is installed.
Custom metallic forest green paint in 2019. The honest truth is that in places it still looks great, in places not so great. Aggressive Firestone all terrain tires on all 6 rims. Tires have about 8,000 miles - like new. Leather front seats out of an F-250 Lariat. They do show some wear and seam splitting. Weather tech floor mats. I put thousands $$ into the air conditioning as it didn’t work when I bought the truck, so A/C and heat work. Crawl-through passage between cab and box. I installed a large sliding egress window from an RV on the left side with custom shade. Installed a boat hatch type port for fun on the right side for fresh air when sleeping in the bunk. Brakes all in great shape. Rear brakes new a few years ago with few miles. I have the full Ford service records from day one.
This is a big, roomy, classic 6.0L sounding, 4x4 beast. It’s been almost totally dearship maintained, no shade tree tinkering on anything mechanical. No engine mods.
I’ve slept two adults and two kids in it on camping trips. The interior will need finishing out as my spare time for this has long run out. It’s ready to drive away, I haven’t done anything major on the engine, transmission, or drivetrain, just typical replacement items and fluids. You won’t need brakes or tires for a long, long time.
Known issues:
-Some mild belt squeal until everything warms up. (Belts replaced)
-Passenger door latch/lock can be finicky though power locks work all around.
-Back bumper is crooked. Been that way since I purchased.
