Vintage 1965 Micro Canned Ham Camper Travel Trailer DeCamp Easy Traveler De Camp
Up for bids is my 1965 DeCamp Easy Traveler Mini-canned ham vintage camper. The camper has a clear Illinois Title. It is listed as an Easy Traveler Travel Trailer.
The Decamp Easy Traveler is a vintage, lightweight camper trailer manufactured by DeCamp, a company established in Elkhart, Indiana, in 1952. Known for its compact design, it is often sought after by vintage enthusiasts for restoration, with models dating back to the late 1950s. The "Easy Traveler" name was part of the company's lineup, which also included Covered Wagon and Bon-Aire Trailers.
This camper was rebuilt from the frame up. The only original wood framing is the roof system/ rafters.I replaced all of the original, untreated pine 2"x2"'s with treated 2"x3" lumber and marine grade plywood. Glued and screwed together. It is currently ready to be transformed into your personal camper/unfinished interior.Fiber board underlayment has been replaced with 4'x4' Aluminum panels and coated with bed liner.Flooring is insulated using 2" foam board I obtained from a commercial industrial contractor.Brand new axle and leaf springs installed by Joliet suspension out of Rockdale, IL.LED lights and marker lights (currently not hooked up)has a brand new A-Frame jack that I will include in the purchase.Camper is sitting on 15" trailer rims/tires. Has identical spare (not installed yet)Camper has been sprayed with original Parker Coatings Duck Boat Paint (readily available) in Marsh Grass Green and Sand Tan.The camper is dry. There are no leaks that I am aware of.The camper has its original door, skin and windows. There are many original dings and small imperfections on the camper that can only come with age and adventure! I believe this adds to the true character of the camper.
Camper measurements are as follows:ExteriorCamper is approximately 183" Long from rear bumper to tip of coupler (15 feet, 3 inches)The body of the camper (exterior) measures 7 feet wide by 12 feet8 feet tall
InteriorInterior floor to ceiling joists is 73" high (6 feet, 1 inch)Interior flooring is 80" wide by 124" long (6 feet, 8 inches wide by 10 feet, 4 inched long)
Additional details about the camper:The camper is wrapped in house wrap between the outer skin and the interior wall joists.New skylight and vent.Original windows are cleaned up and intact, but could use some tightening adjustment (or leave as is)No window screens are includedFresh butyl tape throughout exterior of panelingDoor is completely rebuiltGlass on door is original with some replacement plexiglass (old plexiglass)There is some staining (as pictured) on the original ceiling joists/rafters. They are intact and I decided to leave them the way they are as the roof is 100% originalRoof is coated with Dicor Elastomeric RV roof coating. It appears as though there is a small piece (less than 2" diameter) that has delaminated (see pictures). I have the roof coating, and will give it to you during the sale, but the time of the year is too cold to re-coat this area.
This trailer tows very nice and straight. That being said, I only towed it around the immediate area for testing. Since there is no interior that would further strengthen the camper at this point, I would suggest towing it to it's final destination for finishing. The trailer is very solid, make no mistake, but this camper is currently incomplete; awaiting your ideas/finishing that will further strengthen the structure itself.Pickup in Woodridge, IL 60517 - approximately 30 miles west of Chicago, IL
