2005 Dutton Commander 4X4 Amphibious Vehicle

Price: US $28,000.00 Item location: Marthasville, Missouri, United States
Description:

Up for auction is my 2005 Dutton 4X4 amphibious vehicle. This is a fully functioning Dutton on both road and water. I have owned this Dutton for about 15 years. When I purchased this Dutton it was in poor shape and has been rebuilt by me. This was a turn key car built at the Dutton factory with every option available and a 1990 Samurai donor car, then shipped here to the US to it's first owner. I am the second owner of this Dutton. This Dutton will come with a clear Missouri MOZ title. This is a title for a home built watercraft. This is how the State of Missouri wanted me to licence it for both land and water. You will be responsible to find out how your state licences amphibious vehicles. I do not have the titles for either Samurai, Missouri DMV had me turn them in when I applied for the MOZ title.I purchased an additional 1995 Suzuki Samurai to replace the badly rusted drive terrain. The Dutton made jet drive was also rebuilt with new pulleys and belt. In the first few years I owned this Dutton, I replaced the alternator, timing belt, water pump, head gasket, fuel pump and sending unit, and later on the fuel injection. I also built a custom header with a stainless steel exhaust. This Dutton does have a heater but I have bypassed it for now because I do not drive it in the winter. I also had a 4 wheel disc brake conversion installed. In the past couple of years I have installed new aluminum rims with new tires. All the original parts and options are included in this sale plus many extra Samurai parts including an additional transfer case. The options that I have removed you can see in that first picture of the ad. I removed the trailer hitch, the lifting straps, the camper shell, and the side windows. The soft top also goes off and on very easily. All of these would be easily put back on except for the trailer hitch which would require pulling the gas tanks out. I removed it because I would never tow anything with this vehicle and I was hoping to make it more streamlined for the water. No modifications were required to the hull to change out the axles. However I did need to modify one end of each driveshaft with the larger flange that the newer Samurais used, The 95 axles also had 2" lift leaf springs on then. I do not have pictures of the transmission or transfer case because that would require to remove the seats and a a bunch of covers.Just so you also know if you are not familiar with a Dutton, they are very slow in the water (about 4mph) but will drive down the road like a Samurai does, in other words, very under powered, although it will do 55-60 on a highway until you hit a hill :) with that being said, just remember that this is more of a novelty vehicle than an every day driver, it just doesn't make a very good car or a very good boat but it is a heck of a lot of fun. Especially when the cameras come flying out every time you have it out.T
