DODGE RAM B3500 CAMPER VAN CONVERSION-LOW MILAGE-SOLAR-DECK!
1995 DODGE B350/B3500 CAMPER VAN — APPROX. 41K ORIGINAL MILES
$12,500 OBO | Coronado / Point Loma, San Diego, CA 92110
Low original mileage, a 5.9L Magnum V8, a replacement automatic transmission, extensive mechanical work and an owner-built camper conversion with 400W solar, a substantial house electrical system, diesel heat and a rooftop deck. At or near asking price, the package also includes a lightly used ICECO APL55 dual-zone refrigerator/freezer and WeBoost Drive X cellular booster, as agreed below.
I am a seasoned mechanic with a lifetime of hands-on experience, and I personally performed the mechanical work, maintenance, wiring, fabrication and camper construction. I built this for my own family with the intention of keeping it. Military orders and a move to Kodiak, Alaska changed our plans after considerable time and money had already gone into the van.
THE INVESTMENT BEHIND THE ASKING PRICE
More than $12,000 has gone into known major parts, maintenance and upgrades alone. That does not include the purchase price of the van, the substantial heavy-gauge charging cable, numerous smaller electrical and construction components, or any of my labor witch is substantial.
Specific investments include:
Replacement Shift Rite automatic transmission: approximately $2,679
Goodyear Wrangler tire setup: approximately $2,250
ICECO APL55 dual-zone 12V refrigerator/freezer: approximately $1,000 paid
Optima YellowTop starting battery: approximately $350 for the battery alone
Pioneer head unit and Kicker 6x9 speakers: approximately $400 in parts alone
Those five items total approximately $6,679 before accounting for the solar system, AGM house battery, charging hardware, inverter, cellular booster, heater, MaxxFan, insulation, roof deck and the rest of the mechanical and construction work.
The value for the next owner is having these systems installed, substantial mechanical work already done, and access to the owner who can explain the build and share supporting photos.

5.9L Magnum V8 gasoline engine
Automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive
Approximately 40K original miles
Standard/regular wheelbase

TRANSMISSION AND MECHANICAL WORK
A replacement upgraded Shift Rite automatic transmission was installed in October 2024. The previous transmission was still functioning, but its valve-body seals were deteriorating, so I replaced it proactively before a cross-country trip. The van subsequently completed roughly 3,500 miles of cross-country travel without any transmission problems. Photos of the old transmission, replacement unit and installation are available.
The tires are Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse HT, size LT245/75R16, with an estimated 98% tread life remaining. Approximately $2,250 was invested in the tire setup.
Additional work and servicing includes:
All front brake components replaced
Hubs and bearings replaced
Driveshaft U-joints replaced
Rear upgraded coil-over shocks
Belt tensioner and fuel filter
Spark plugs and plug wires
Distributor and ignition coil
Air filter and radiator/coolant servicing
Differential, brake, transmission and power-steering fluids
Supporting photos show the tires, brake work, suspension, engine compartment, transmission installation and other build details.
SOLAR, HOUSE POWER AND THREE CHARGING SOURCES
The house battery can recharge from rooftop solar, the alternator while driving, or shore power while parked.
400W rooftop solar
Large AGM house battery rated 245Ah on its label, approximately 250Ah class
Renogy DC-to-DC charging with an MPPT solar controller
Bluetooth app monitoring and a dedicated digital system readout
1600W inverter
120V outlets, USB charging and interior LED lighting
Rear shore-power inlet with a dedicated battery charger
New Optima YellowTop starting battery
Heavy-gauge charging wiring runs from the alternator/starting-battery system to the house battery in the rear. The system prioritizes the starting battery, then automatically charges the house battery after the starting battery is topped off. Charging status can be monitored through the app while driving.
The house electrical system can also assist/jump the starting battery if needed. The heavy cable and associated installation hardware represent an additional investment beyond the component prices listed above.
CAMPER INTERIOR AND COMFORT
The interior has wood-paneled walls and ceiling, wood-look flooring, convertible sleeping/seating, storage throughout and useful table/work surfaces. The entire van is insulated with spray foam, and with Kilmat sound-deadening treatment.
Features include:
Diesel heater
MaxxFan roof ventilation
Interior fans and LED lighting
USB charging and 120V power
Captain’s chair/seating with a seatbelt that swivels
Fold-down table and rear table/work area
Side-door access to the living space
Professionally done tint under warranty all around
Diesel heater
Multiple 12V receptacles
The diesel heater has kept me toasty overnight with outside temperatures in the teens Fahrenheit. Combined with the insulation throughout the van, it made a real difference on cold nights during my travels.
QUEEN-SIZE MATTRESS AND UNDER-BED STORAGE
The sleeping area has a queen-size mattress. I traveled across the country solo, and it worked great as a one-person setup. To use the full length of the mattress, an additional platform support will need to be added.
We can also include storage dividers for underneath the bed. They’ve worked great for keeping gear organized and making the most of the under-bed storage space.
ICECO FRIDGE AND WEBOOST — INCLUDED AT OR NEAR ASKING
At the $12,500 asking price, or an agreed offer close to asking, we will include both:
ICECO APL55 dual-zone 12V refrigerator/freezer: 58-quart capacity, hardly used, works great, and cost approximately $1,000.
WeBoost Drive X cellular signal booster: has been excellent in my experience for improving reception where cellular coverage is weak or hard to reach, including the cellular connection used by a phone hotspot.
The WeBoost boosts cellular reception; it is not a standalone internet service or a Wi-Fi router extender. The standard Drive X kit listed for approximately $500.
We can also discuss a lower-priced package without the fridge and/or booster. The final price and included equipment will be agreed upon before an offer is accepted, so both sides know exactly what is included.
EXTERIOR, ROOFTOP DECK AND CORROSION PROTECTION
Rugged textured protective exterior coating, rooftop rack/deck, exterior ladder and rear-mounted spare setup. The roof carries the solar panels and camper ventilation equipment; the deck provides additional outdoor space when parked. The rack (4 total) are each rated for 400lbs so you can put anything up there and tie down hardware works great for attaching a tent or anything else you need.
The entire undercarriage has dedicated corrosion-protection undercoating. The van has zero rust, with underside protection deliberately included in the build. All door weatherstripping has been replaced, and there are no leaks.
AUDIO
Pioneer head unit and Kicker 6x9 speakers, with approximately $400 invested in those parts alone, excluding installation. The exterior radio antenna was broken/stolen and needs replacement for normal AM/FM reception.
TRANSPARENCY — KNOWN ISSUES AND FINISHING DETAILS
Some finish trim is unfinished because I wasn’t able to complete it in time for the move. Those remaining finishing details are reflected in the asking price. It gives the buyer the opertunity to add any finishing touches and details they want to make it theirs.
As noted above, the queen mattress worked great for my solo cross-country trip. Additional platform support is needed to use its full length.
There is an intermittent accessory-drive pulley squeak. I suspect an idler pulley, but it has not been definitively diagnosed.
There is a slight vibration above approximately 75 mph, noticed after a wheel-balancing weight came off. Wheel balance should be checked; that is not a confirmed diagnosis.
The exterior radio antenna was broken/stolen, as noted above.
This is an older, owner-built camper with normal age and use, not a factory-new RV or showroom restoration. Buyers are welcome to inspect the van and workmanship.
VIEWING AND PICKUP
Asking $12,500 OBO. We can arrange local showings in the Coronado / Point Loma area of San Diego, CA 92110, answer questions and share supporting build photos.
Nationwide transport is welcome at the buyer’s expense. We can coordinate carrier pickup and loading; transport charges are not included in the asking price. IT IS UP TO THE GUYER TO ARRANGE TRANSPORT LOGISTICS.
